HyperionDev is transforming tech education with accessible, high-quality coding bootcamps that help people start or advance their careers in tech. By focusing on practical skills in Software Engineering, Data Science, and more, HyperionDev prepares students for real-world jobs in a growing industry. In this blog, we’ll explore how the company is making tech careers more accessible and impactful.

Tell us a bit about your company…

HyperionDev is the largest provider of online coding bootcamps in EMEA, has been transforming tech education since 2012. Reaching over 2 million students annually and with more than 500,000 active users on our platform, we generate over 100,000 student applications each year. We’ve proudly graduated over 10,000 students in Software Engineering, Data Science, and Web Development.

Our dedicated team of 200+ full-time employees, split between the UK and South Africa, ensures high-quality mentorship and coaching. Partnering with HyperionDev means aligning with a leader in tech education, enhancing your tech talent pipeline with graduates known for their readiness and adaptability.

Our mission is to bridge the global tech skills gap by providing accessible, top-level coding education and driving diversity within tech teams.

What problem do you solve or what difference do you make for your clients?

Specifically in the UK we face a significant challenge with 6.8 million people having “ultra low” digital skills, costing the economy £63bn annually. Bridging this gap is essential for sustainable growth and that’s where we come in, addressing the critical tech skills gap that hampers business growth and innovation. By providing high-quality, accessible coding bootcamps, we equip our students with the essential skills needed for careers in Software Engineering, Data Science, and Web Development.

How we help our Employer Partners:
• Access to Skilled Talent: Our graduates are industry-ready, having undergone rigorous training and real-world coding mentorship, ensuring they can contribute effectively from day one in the workplace.

• Enhanced Diversity: 41% of our current students are women; 50% are from underrepresented backgrounds. We focus on diversifying the tech workforce by supporting students from various backgrounds, creating a richer, more inclusive talent pool and subsequently tech industry.

• Recruitment Efficiency: Our team streamlines the hiring process for employer partners by providing a pre-vetted, highly skilled talent pipeline, saving time and recruitment costs.

We’ve recently also launched our very own Hire-Train-Deploy Initiative, designed to support specific tech stack challenges or project requirements; we provide the grads for employers to interview and select for deployment; we deliver bespoke training for the grads on the tech stack required and deploy them for immediate impact – more info here.

By partnering with HyperionDev, employers fill key tech roles, drive their organisational transformation goals, fostering and retaining a diverse, innovative and sustainable talent pipeline.

How would you describe the culture within the business, and how does this contribute to its success?

Being mad about education unites all 200+ of us. We’re also a global team, so there is very broad cultural diversity, but one thing that is in sync besides our values the hobby channels is Star Wars references. No two days are the same here and that is greatly driven by a desire to continuously push the boundaries of innovation and relevance.

How do you invest in the development and well-being of your employees? What makes your company a great place to work?

At HyperionDev, we believe that the well-being and development of our employees are paramount. We strive to create a supportive and enriching work environment that makes our company a great place to work. Here’s how we do it:

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP):
We offer all staff access to an Employee Assistance Programme, providing counselling, legal, and financial advice to employees and their immediate families. This ensures our team has the support they need in all aspects of life.

Wellness Initiatives:

• Wellness Days: At our campuses in South Africa, we host Wellness Days where staff can receive health assessments, financial advice, and holistic wellness support.

• Affordable Medical Insurance: In South Africa, where there is no national health service, we provide very affordable medical insurance benefits.
• Monthly Wellness Newsletter: Each month, we focus on a theme of well-being, accompanied by supporting events to promote holistic health.

Conflict Resolution and Support:
We take a holistic and supportive approach to conflict resolution, providing a psychologically safe environment for managers and employees to resolve team issues. Our team includes professionals with degrees in Psychology and a registered psychometrist, ensuring a deep commitment to employee well-being and HR best practices.

Employee Feedback and Engagement:
Using our office vibe tool, we collect anonymous feedback through weekly pulse surveys, tracking employee engagement, well-being, and happiness. This feedback guides our interventions and allows us to provide personalized support to employees who need assistance.

Professional Growth and Development:
As an educational institution, we place high value on the growth and development of our staff. We offer free bootcamps to all employees, bursaries, access to continuous professional development, coaching, and management programmes. Last year alone, we conducted over 100 training interventions internally in various formats.

A Unique Place to Work:
Working at HyperionDev means being at the forefront of tech education and playing a crucial role in democratizing access to tech careers for individuals of all backgrounds. Our mission-driven approach makes our company exist beyond a workplace, but a community committed to making a meaningful impact.

At HyperionDev, we invest in our employees because we know that their well-being and growth are integral to our success. We are proud to be a company that supports and nurtures its team, making us a truly great place to work.

What are the top achievements and successes you’re most proud of?

Since our inception, we have proudly graduated over 10,000 students from bootcamps in Software Engineering, Data Science, and Web Development. These graduates have made significant contributions to the tech industry, highlighting the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of our training programs. With cohorts exceeding a thousand students, over 90% of job-eligible graduates secure employment within a year – proof of the practical, job-ready skills and real-world experience our programs deliver.

Is there any other work you’re doing in the community that you’d like to share?

Although it’s early days with the SB community, we’ve already connected with a few employers and are excited to meet more members in person on the 19th. We look forward to continuing events like Spotlights, Keynotes, and participation in Tech Fairs, as well as reverse fairs where students showcase their projects to potential employers. Past partners include BBC, Cognizant, and Accenture.

We also run hackathons and tech innovation labs, where your team can co-lead a guest session during one of our bootcamps. This involves setting a “How do we” challenge based on a real-life problem you’re addressing, with your team guiding the response alongside ours, helping to up-skill students before graduation. These events can be aligned with your hiring needs for maximum impact.

In the spirit of innovation, we’re always open to new ideas and collaborations that align with your goals. For instance, we recently hosted an event spotlighting the issue of gender disparity in tech leadership—where 56% of women leave the industry within 20 years and only 5% hold leadership roles. Partnering with Pepr, a mentor-matching organisation, we’re addressing this issue by offering mentorship and role models to help women not only enter but stay in tech. We’re always ready to contribute and add value to initiatives that solve real-world problems.

Are there any upcoming projects, goals or ambitions that you are particularly excited about?

We’re excited about our Hire-Train-Deploy programme launch TalentLeap; we currently have 15 developers with 7 companies working on a variety of projects for a 12 week period. We’re particularly excited because it enables our employer partners to tell us what gaps they’re needing addressed or tech projects to accelerate within their organisations; we provide the talent and bespoke training, so our graduates will be equipped to address those gaps from day one. We understand startup / scale-up success often hinges on having the right talent at the right time and HyperionDev can help fill the skills gap for companies, in a risk-free and cost-effective way. Deployment contributions are a very small fraction compared to standard market rates, grads are assessed for impact on the job and no placement fees apply at the end of the deployment period, as we are UK government funded.

We’ve recently launched three new bootcamps in partnership with local councils, each tailored to provide region-specific value. In Lancashire, we’re focusing on Leadership & Management, in South Holland District, we’ve introduced a Software Engineering bootcamp, and in Surrey, we’re offering Cyber Security training. We’re always exploring new opportunities to expand and deliver targeted programs that address the unique needs of different regions.

We’re working on some new course launches across AI Ethics & Governance and Digital Marketing, apprenticeships and workforce up-skilling – if any of these are of interest, reach out to register expression of interest here.

The exposure and connections we gain through this partnership enable us to reach a broader audience, promote diversity in tech beyond London, and empower more individuals to embark on successful tech careers, through new employer partnerships.

Considering your involvement in Silicon Brighton and community-building, what does the concept of ‘community’ mean to you? How important is it for the tech industry?

Community is important to us, and we want to ensure a positive experience all around for our employer partnerships. The reason we receive positive feedback is because we focus on creating dedicated, long-lasting, and mutually beneficial partnerships with everyone who joins our community, from students to employer partners.

We’ve talked about the numbers globally, and this is in part due to working with the Department for Education, delivering some of the largest digital skills courses in the country, as well as having links to various regional councils in the UK as a result of our various tenders and contracts.

We’re proud sponsors of Silicon Brighton, supporting the emerging tech industry in the South West, and we’re also members of the London Chamber of Commerce, having access to a network of 8.5k businesses. We have a community of employer partners and guest speakers for events, passionate about democratising access to education and uplifting individuals into careers in tech.

These are resources that help us reach our goals alongside our partners, and anytime you want to explore these channels, we’ll be here to assist.
