Anthony is a technologist and entrepreneur who’s spent his career building tools that change how people interact with media and startups. He created BBC iPlayer, founded SeedLegals, the platform reshaping how founders handle legal and funding, and has led companies like Beamly and QJAM. His work often explores the edges of media, intellectual property, and innovation, and he holds several patents in video and 3D content technology. A longtime advocate for founder-friendly legaltech, Anthony brings both technical insight and a deep understanding of what start-ups need.
Which talk/panel did you speak at?
How to Build a Product Your Customers Will Love and Pay For
Can you share a bit about your background?
Founder and CEO, SeedLegals. Built and sold a few start-ups, used to head up BBC iPlayer.
What inspired you to speak at EVOLVE [25]?
I love sharing my experience with founders to help them get there faster.
What was the key message or idea you most wanted the audience to take away from your talk?
Really really validate your idea before building it.
Were there any audience reactions or questions that really stood out to you?
People seemed happy, and nobody threw anything. That was good.
How does the topic you spoke about connect to your current work or passion projects?
I speak to hundreds of founders at SeedLegals, so I see the problems they face. I’m here to Share those learnings so others don’t make the same mistakes.
What emerging trends or challenges in tech (or your field) are you most excited about right now?
AI, of course. But what I’m really looking forward to is a Agentic AI where you can connect AI with external systems. My pet project is to make a voice-activated SeedFAST, so you can just talk into your phone, going “Hey, send a SeedFAST on SeedLegals to Alice. Raising £20k. Here’s her email.” And it just gets done.
What advice would you give to someone looking to make an impact in your area of expertise?
I’m in the legal tech space, and most legal tech companies are started by disaffected lawyers rather than technologists. The problem is, lawyers start off by being very risk-averse and also want to create tools to make things more efficient for law firms. What I like to do is create new propositions for consumers that perhaps mean they don’t need a law firm and which do things in a completely new and different way.
How do you see the future evolving in your industry over the next few years?
AI is definitely going to replace a lot of law firm interactions. I think people do 90% of the contract with AI and then loop in a lawyer to review the last 10% for correctness.
What was your favourite part of the EVOLVE experience?
Meeting lots of wonderful founders.
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects, initiatives, or goals you’re excited to share?
We’re expanding SeedLegals into the U.S. I’m hugely excited about that and I’m spending a lot of time in New York these days launching SeedLegals U.S. So if your company is thinking of expanding into the U.S or raising from US investors, SeedLegals is there to help.
What’s one book, podcast, or resource that’s inspired you recently?
