Finding Calm during Uncertain Times

Michelle Flynn is a Certified Health Coach and a CBT Practitioner (previously a technical recruiter specialising in .Net) that is going to be sharing tips with us to help us live longer, healthier, happier lives.

If you’re looking to find calm in these uncertain times, check out the blog post below and then join us on Wednesday 14th April for ‘Caring for Coders’, where Michelle will expand on the key ways to relieve anxiety.

Saying that 2020 / 2021 has been a period of uncertainty is an understatement.

It has been just over a year since we all got the first order to stay at home.  Overnight offices were empty, shops were shut, pubs were silent, and our kids were no longer going to school.  It felt like a weird movie about something so unreal and yet it was happening to us.   Like many, I thought it would only last a few weeks, so I actually came to Brighton in March 2020 with just a few clothes expecting to be back in London by May at the latest.  Here I am a year later with no plans to leave as I love it here so much.

Anxiety levels for so many people over the last year have skyrocketed.  It is your body’s natural response to stress. It’s a feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come and can range from mild discomfort to being severely debilitating.  It can be something that builds up over time or hits us out of the blue.

It is normal to feel anxious during uncertain times and this is unpleasant, but it may motivate you to work harder and to do a better job. Ordinary anxiety is a feeling that comes and goes.  However, in extreme cases, it may prevent you from living your everyday life or even leaving your home.

However, if you are struggling with severe anxiety then I would suggest talking to an expert for advice specific to you, you may find that talking alone is enough to make you feel back in control.

On Wednesday 14th April at 12:30pm, I am going to be giving a talk about how to find calm, where I will talk about anxiety in more depth and share 8 practical tips that are specific to how many of us are feeling during lockdown. I will also answer questions about how to deal with life post lockdown, so I hope you can join me then.
