SUMMARY:Brighton AI – Under the Hood: Supercomputing\, Neuromorphic AI an
 d Quantum Explained
DESCRIPTION:This Brighton AI meetup is for anyone who wants to understand w
hat’s actually going on "under the hood" of the next wave of AI and hard
ware\, without needing a PhD (or pretending you’ve already got one).\n##
 # What we’ll cover:\n\n\n Supercomputing for AI: What it actually is\,
why it's the engine of the current AI boom\, and when a business actually
needs it.\n Neuromorphic AI: How "brain-inspired" hardware can slash th
e massive energy bills of modern AI.\n Quantum Sensing: Moving past the
hype to see how quantum tech is already being trialled in rail\, defence\,
and energy.\n\n### Our speakers\nAndy Forrester (HypeAccelerator Solution
s Limited) Talk: Supercomputing for AI Andy is an innovation and data sc
ience transformation specialist. He supports large\, complex organisations
—across government\, aerospace\, and healthcare - to turn emerging tech
into real-world delivery. He’ll explain the "heavy lifting" hardware tha
t makes modern AI possible.\nProfessor Thomas Nowotny (University of Susse
x / Sussex AI) Talk: Reducing AI energy consumption with neuromorphic har
dware Thomas is a Professor of Informatics and co-director of the “Suss
ex AI” Centre of Excellence. He works in Computational Neuroscience and
Biomimetic AI. He’ll show us how moving to "event-based" machine learnin
g can help stop AI from consuming quite so much electricity.\nFedja Orucev
ic &amp\; Thomas Coussens (Spectomiq) Talk: Quantum — What is it and wh
at are the commercial applications? A University of Sussex spin-out\, Spe
ctomiq is moving quantum tech from the lab to the ground. They’ll explai
n how their patented sensing arrays pick out signals from "noisy" environm
ents in real-time. We'll look at three big use cases:\n\n\n Rail: Pinpoi
nting train locations without visual confirmation.\n Defence: Navigating
in "GPS-denied" environments.\n Energy: Detecting defects in EV batteri
 es without invasive testing.\n\n### Format\n\n\n 18:00: Arrivals + drink
 s\n 18:15: Welcome (Brighton AI)\n 18:20: Three 15-minute lightning ta
 lks\n 19:15: Combined Audience Q&amp\;A\n 19:40: Informal chats + netw
 orking\n 20:00: Close\n\n### 📍 How to find us\nVenue: Sussex Innovat
 ion Centre\, Science Park Square\, Falmer\, BN1 9SB. View on Google Maps
