LTUX Brighton x codebar Brighton: Dev and UX working together

Our aim is to work together on a challenge as a way to learn together. Through this we’ll consider and experience the ways that developers, UXers, and content designers collaborate on projects. This is a structured hackathon-style event with experts in the room, to help guide people of all experience levels.

Attendance for this event will follow codebar’s eligibility criteria:
“our workshops are available to women, LGBTQ and people who are underrepresented in the tech industry”.

What to expect:

• Doors will open at 6pm.
• Snacks and light refreshments will be provided.
• There will be 15 minutes for food and networking before an introduction and welcome from LTUX Brighton and codebar Brighton. This will be followed by welcomes from our host, WERKS.
• The workshop will start promptly at 6:30pm and finish at 8:30pm.
• We have spaces for 40 in-person attendees.
• This workshop involves working with other people at a table.
• You are welcome to bring your laptop and devices as there will be some diagnostic work tasks, but there will be no coding. This is not a requirement, you will be able to attend and take part without owning a device.

During the workshop, you’ll learn how to:

• Research and run basic diagnostics to review a website.
• Consider functional and non-functional requirements.
• Bring designers and developers together to look at usability and accessibility issues.
• Consider the process of content audits.
• Code/Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) assessment.

This workshops includes a mixture of paper-based group activities, discussions, and guided activities with input from experts. You’ll be asked to use your observational skills to help develop or refine your practices. We would like a mix of levels of expertise, so no matter your prior experience with design or code, you are very welcome to attend.
