SUMMARY:Online Roundtable: Unlocking Entrepreneurship For Neurodivergent Of
 fenders
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an insightful – and rarely had – discussion to
explore how we can eliminate stigma and barriers for neurodivergent offend
ers who are starting businesses\, and support them to discover the joy\, m
eaning\, and connection that comes from entrepreneurship.\n\nEveryone\, re
gardless of their background\, deserves a chance to find their light and f
ollow their heart. At any given moment\, any one of us may find ourselves
in a situation where mistakes are made and a second chance is needed.\n\nN
eurodivergent individuals are disproportionately represented in the crimin
al justice system\, as highlighted in a report by the Chief Inspector of P
risons on Neurodiversity in the Criminal Justice System (Neurodiversity i
n the Criminal Justice System\, 2021). According to the report\, approxima
tely half the individuals entering prisons are likely to have some form of
neurodivergence.\n\nSeveral reasons contribute to the overrepresentation
of neurodivergent people in the criminal justice system – primarily\, th
e inaccessibility of our society. \n\nOur world is not designed for neuro
divergent individuals\, often resulting in experiences such as hypersensit
ivity to emotions and communication differences being misinterpreted in th
e worst possible way. Additionally\, a perceived lack of opportunities can
create a sense of desperation\, pushing individuals towards unfortunate s
ituations.\n\nAs a society\, it is crucial that we recognise the inherent
value within each one of us and the role we can all play in creating a soc
iety of belonging\, empowerment\, and connection. \n\nFor our next roundt
able\, Joyfully Different Co-Founder and former Civilian Police Adviser Ma
rk Blake will be joined by Phil Ashford\, Director of Supersonic Startup\,
to lead an important discussion about how we can move beyond labels and s
tigma to empower neurodivergent offenders in the world of business.\n\nMar
k and Phil will discuss:\n\n What challenges related to stigma do neurodi
vergent offenders face when starting businesses?\n What empowerment do ne
urodivergent offenders experience through launching their own businesses?\
n What barriers does the criminal justice system add to neurodivergent of
fenders trying to start businesses?\n What resources do you believe are n
ecessary to empower more businesses run by neurodivergent offenders?\n\nAb
