PHP Sussex – HTMX: A Pragmatic Poke

This month, PHP Sussex welcome back a returning speaker and regular attendee, Joby Harding, for a new talk about HTMX and Laravel.

If you’re not familiar with HTMX, it’s a library that allows developers to access a bunch of features normally only available through JavaScript, directly in HTML (see talk details below).

Joby is a Full Stack Engineer and Consultant at Full Stack App Co.

This event will be hybrid, meaning you can either join in person or online:

The in-person event will take place at Runway East in Brighton from 6:30 pm (talk at 7 pm). There will be food and drinks courtesy of Runway East and Tillo – come have a chat before the talk!

About the talk:

The self-proclaimed antidote to the complexity of JavaScript in modern, full stack web apps: can HTMX + server-side templates really compete with front-end experiences powered by React and Vue? Are we just swapping one set of headaches for another?

Over the last few months, Joby Harding has been kicking the tyres to evaluate whether HTMX delivers on its promise and cuts the mustard for an upcoming Laravel project. In this talk, he gives an opinionated guide to using HTMX in your full stack app based on his research, deliberations and snags overcome.
