SUMMARY:PHP Sussex - Reliable API Calls Without the Stress + Lightning Talk
 s
DESCRIPTION:\nDetails\n\n\nThis month we welcome returning speaker Steve M
cDougall a.k.a. JustSteveKing a.k.a. The API Guy\, for a new talk about i
mplementing the outbox pattern in Laravel (see details further down).\nBef
ore Steve takes the stage from his home in beautiful Wales\, Andy Broomfi
eld and our very own Joby Harding will give two lightning talks about D
rupal’s latest updates and PHPStorm’s new ‘Junie’ AI integration.\
nThis event will be hybrid\, meaning you can either join in person or onli
ne:\nThe in-person event will take place at Runway East in Brighton fro
m 6:30 pm (talk at 7 pm). There will be food and drinks courtesy of Runwa
y East and Tillo – come have a chat before the talk!\nOnline particip
ants can join the live stream from 7 pm.\nWhat's New in Drupal\nTo kickst
art the evening\, Andy Broomfield will give us a quick tour of what’s ne
w in Drupal\, including the Drupal CMS launched in January to easily get s
tarted with Drupal\, Recipes for quick feature installation\, Single Direc
tory Components for rapid theming using atomic design principles\, and AI
tools and agents for content editors and site builders.\nAndy is a Websit
e Technical Lead at the Brighton &amp\; Hove City Council.\nJune Junie: 4
weeks with PHPStorm's new coding AI\nJunie is an overhaul of Jetbrains’
AI offering for the vibe-coding generation\, released in mid April. Joby d
ecided to jump in with both feet for 4 weeks and will share his experience
s using Junie in PHPStorm to do “real work”\, as well as thoughts and
musings on the future of coding and the coming singularity.\nJoby is an In
dependent Developer at Full Stack App Co. and\, of course\, co-organiser
of PHP Sussex.\nReliable API Calls Without the Stress\nFinally\, Steve McD
ougall will introduce a tool that every API developer should have in their
toolbox:\n“When it comes to sending API requests in Laravel\, doing it
"right now" isn't always necessary - but making sure it actually happens i
s critical. In this talk\, we will dive into the outbox pattern\, a simple
but powerful approach to ensure API calls\, webhooks\, and external syncs
are reliably sent\, even if your queues or services fail.\nYou'll learn h
ow to implement this pattern in Laravel\, why it matters\, and how it can
save your app from silent failures. If you've ever lost sleep over flaky w
ebhooks or missed API calls\, this one is for you.”\nSteve is a renowned
content creator and freelance developer with capacity for new clients at
the moment – feel free to reach out through his website!\nSee you on th
 e 11th 🫡\nBig thanks to Silicon Brighton\, Tillo and Runway East f
or their support.\nRunway East has been fighting boring offices since 2014
. Members get team bliss guaranteed\, space to scale and Big Desk Energy.\
