As summer is upon us and the seafront is getting jam-packed, let’s get away from the stag and hen and sten (didn’t know that was a thing) dos and congregate in Pizza Pilgrims’ air-conditioned basement to listen to Derick Rethans tell us about PHP’s new wonders (details further down).

Derick wears many hats but many of you will know him as the author of Xdebug, PHP’s most popular debugging tool. Derick is also an independent contractor and a PHP core developer.

This event will be hybrid, meaning you can either join in person or online (please register for the meetup either way!):

The in-person event will take place at Pizza Pilgrims in Brighton from 6 pm. There will be food and drinks and you’re welcome to come have a chat before the talk starts (around 6:30 pm).

Online participants can join the live stream from 6:30 pm.

Here is how Derick introduces his talk:

“During this presentation, we are going to look at the new features added in PHP 8.1 and PHP 8.2, and potentially in PHP 8.3.

Join me to have a look at how the type system is strengthened with Enumerations and “never”, Fibers, a new closure syntax, the First Class Callable Syntax, intersection and disjunctive normal form types, readonly classes, and other smaller features.”

This is your chance to catch up with PHP’s latest features from someone who contributes to implementing them.

Hope to see you there and then!

As always, a big thank you to Silicon Brighton for their support.
