“Elm taught me to write code 10 years after my Teachers taught me how to write code” – Alex Nicol

We are delighted to have a brand new talk from long time Brighton Web Development Meetup member and previous speaker Alex Nicol.

In this presentation, Alex will share how a particular programming language, Elm which is a type strict, purely functional language, changed the way he approaches software design.

Elm has also changed what Alex expects programming language tools to do for him as a developer; and ultimately how Alex believes that Elm made him a better web developer.

Bio:

Alex Nicol is a Lead Software Engineer working at Kraken, the software development business for Octopus Energy. Alex is a well known speaker on the Brighton tech scene, having also presenting for Async and Silicon Brighton as well our Meetup Group in the past.

Alex also founded his own company in the past which specialised in conversational systems and tech-for-good. He previously spent many years working at companies like Bounce Technologies and EDF Energy as an Software Engineer specialising in automated voice systems and chatbots.

Doors open at 6:30m and Alex will start his talk around 7pm

As usual there will be free pizzas and drinks on the night, so if you are interested to come along, then please sign up so we can keep track of numbers. Many thanks.

I hope to see you there.

Thanks, Gavin
