Tech-first pet sitting platform acknowledges environmental responsibility with B Corp certification
Pet sitting and travel solution, TrustedHousesitters, is recognising the sustainable steps that can be taken to encourage slow travel, with a newly accredited B Corp status to amplify the company’s global commitment.
With more than 240,000 members across 140 countries, the platform has facilitated more than 10 million nights of pet sitting, pairing pet-loving sitters with pet parents seeking in-home pet care.
The TrustedHousesitters platform operates online, with more than 76% of its membership using the iOS and Android apps. Since the apps being introduced in 2018 (iOS) and 2019 (Android), they have constantly been updated and improved, meeting customer needs of verification, trust and in-app messaging. Background checks, blind reviews and a reimagined messaging experience are now the norm for all members.
Beyond its growing membership and tech advancements, the platform proudly achieved B Corp accreditation, reflecting its commitment to planet-conscious practices being instilled at the core of the business.
Pet parents and pet sitters alike can now travel with confidence knowing they belong to a global community with shared environmental values. A 2024 survey revealed that 99.4% of TrustedHousesitters members consistently adopt small, daily actions to promote sustainability. The survey also revealed that TrustedHousesitters members are more likely than the average traveller to adopt responsible habits whilst abroad, including using reusable water bottles and favouring independent retailers over larger chains.
TrustedHousesitters, by design, is a digital solution to responsible travel, as CEO, Mathew Prior explains:
“Being able to secure a sit from their smartphone means our pet sitters have a world of opportunity right in their pocket. By consciously travelling to an area that may not be a ‘hotspot’ and embedding themselves within the community, our members are actively combating the global issue of over-tourism.
“In addition to this, pet sitters choosing to stay in someone’s home, rather than typical accommodation options like hotels and holiday lets drastically reduces the carbon footprint that they produce.”
TrustedHousesitters is continuing its sustained investment in its three core pillars: people, pets, and the planet. It further emphasises the company’s focus on workforce development, community engagement, and, naturally, the well-being of pets.
Further recent accomplishments include:
Achieving B Corp certification following a rigorous application process
Supporting 36 charities across both the US and UK, all closely aligned with TrustedHousesitters’ core values
Achieving an employee satisfaction score of 49, significantly exceeding the industry benchmark of 31
Launching a dedicated pet care training hub to support rescue pet parents
