In a 2024 report by Mental Health UK, 91% of adults in the UK said they had experienced high or extreme levels of pressure or stress in the past year and 1 in 5 workers needed to take time off work due to poor mental health in the last year.

While there’s no denying burnout impacts everyone, neurodivergent burnout can be an entirely different beast.

Typically, burnout results from prolonged stress in work or personal life, whereas neurodivergent burnout often stems from the additional pressures and stresses we face every day at work and home.

These might include daily sensory overwhelm, navigating societal expectations, managing miscommunications, masking in social and professional situations, struggles with executive functioning and difficulties with interoception (e.g. knowing when we need to rest).

And when we do burn out, it can take a longer time for us to recover.

So, how can we get better at noticing the early signs of burnout?

How can we ensure that we are looking after ourselves in a world that’s unpredictable, challenging and exhausting?

And how can we better advocate for ourselves and our needs in our personal and professional lives?

In this roundtable, we are delighted to be joined by Liz Mulhall-Brewer, a Certified Business Psychologist who specialises in wellbeing and neurodiversity. Liz’s background includes researching workplace ADHD experiences and working as a well-being manager. She is also a neurodiversity coach, supporting wellbeing and performance at work and University.

In our conversation, Liz and Joyfully Different’s Alice Reeves will discuss the below questions – and invite YOUR views too:

What are the earliest signs of burnout and what can we do when we notice them?

How can we recognise our needs and protect our energy?

If we do go into neurodivergent burnout, how do we recover?

What format will the event take?

The event will last for 1 hour and 30 minutes, with rough timings as follows:

10 mins – Welcome and time to settle in
10 mins – Introduction
55 mins – Questions & Facilitated Discussion
15 mins – Closing comments, announcements & event end

Who is this session for?
